UNCLE RAINBEAU’S
With many lovely guests always passing through the Garden Island, we noticed there are not a whole lot of places on Kauai to purchase quality souvenirs that are not cheesy or just downright tacky. Liking a nice hat and a good pun, Uncle RainBeau’s was born. A small family hat business that operates at farmer’s markets on island. My kids operate the booth, teaching them valuable business and people skills. We of course, sell mangos too.
B STREET BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
THE SITUATION:
B Street has the potential to be the coolest street in all of Marin county. It has bocce courts, Albert Park, a minor league baseball diamond and great local bars and restaurants. Currently there has been an influx of the bad element. Bikes are being stolen. Drug deals on the corner. Shoplifting. There was even a shooting at the Safeway. We, a group of neighbors and local business owners, formed the B Team, to clean up B Street.
RESULTS:
Our first target was Albert Park. Instead of people using needles, we want kids using swings. Our slogan is, if you use it, people can’t abuse it. After several years of hard work, we renovated the park and the neighborhood kids now have a safe place to play.
CAMP TRACTOR FLATS SIGN
I have always wanted a large metal sign in my house. I wanted to design it & I wanted it to have some meaning. So I finally came up with a concept.
My grandma had an 80 acre ranch in Burton, TX. Well, 2/3 of it is in Burton, the other 1/3 is in Brenham, the home of Blue Bell Ice Cream. When we were kids, we would visit during the summers. One year, Grandma made all of us shirts that said Camp Tractor Flats, a fake summer camp that referenced the fact that the mesquite trees on the land would always pop our old Ford tractor's tires.
The farm was one of my most favorite places on earth. We even had a halfpipe in the barn that we built during college, which was still in mint condition and skated right up until the day the farm sold.
My Grandma has since passed. The sign now resides on my home office wall, and I am thankful to have it. It reminds me of her and the good times we had on that old farm.
SELLECK WATERFALL SANDWICH
My good friend, Scott Wilson, called me up one day and asked me what the three coolest things in the world were. Before I could answer he told me. Although I was not the founder of the now famous SELLECK WATERFALL SANDWICH meme, I was a heavy contributor. I mean, I religiously watched Magnum reruns daily in college and have been Magnum for more than one Halloween. It has made its way onto Conan's show and has won a Webby. Ridiculous.
